Vets Medical Services Coming to Stafford

Stafford, VA – Stafford County will host a group of veterans benefits specialists on January 17th and 18th in an effort to bring services to veterans who might otherwise have to go to Washington, D.C. or Richmond.

The County’s Human Services Office worked with the Rural Health Initiative Team from McGuire VA Medical Center in Richmond and the Mobile Vet Center Program, also based in Richmond, to bring their mobile vehicles to the Stafford Administration Center at 1300 Courthouse Road, Stafford, VA 22554. Specialists will be available January 17th, from 9:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m., and January 18th, from 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.

If enough interest is shown, both groups would consider regular visits to Stafford.

The Rural Health Initiative Team helps make veterans aware of available benefits they may be entitled to and aids them in signing up for those benefits. Nurses will also be on hand to provide health education on topics such as hypertension, diabetes, weight management, women’s health and mental hygiene.

Mobile Vet Care personnel will aid veterans with benefit enrollment, vocational rehabilitation, compensation upgrades, and healthcare claims. The Mobile Vet Care will also share times and locations for other services they provide such as free counseling and healthcare for veterans who might not be financially eligible.

Veterans are asked to bring a copy of their DD-214 and valid identification. For more information, contact Sharon Y. Rhone, McGuire VA Medical Center Rural Health Initiative Team, at (804) 675-5000, ext. 3382 or [email protected].
