Annual Stafford ceremony honoring vets canceled due to coronavirus

The annual Memorial Day ceremony in Stafford County is the latest victim in the coronavirus outbreak.

County officials noted this morning that they, regrettably, canceled the Memorial Day 2020 Ceremony at the Stafford Armed Services Memorial at the county government center, located at 1300 Courthouse Road, due to the COVID-19 pandemic along with adhering to CDC and State guidelines regarding social distancing and the governor’s 10-person gathering restriction.

The ceremony is typically held the Friday before Memorial Day. This year, the holiday will be observed on Monday, May 25.

"Even though we will not be gathering this year, may we all take a moment to honor and remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country," said Stafford Board of Supervisors Chairman Meg Bohmke. "This is a hard decision, but we have to put the protection of everyone’s health first at this time."
