5 kayakers on Rappahannock River call for help

Five kayakers were assisted to shore by fire and rescue crews.

Those kayakers abandoned their boats near the in the Rappahannock River, near the Interstate 95 bridge near Fredericksburg, about 3;56 p.m. Saturday. Stafford County Fire and Rescue crews were called to the scene to help them, but no one was injured, states fire chief Joseph Cardello.

On Friday, officials with Virginia’s Department of Game and Inland Fisheries issued a warning to boaters this weekend, saying they could encounter raging rivers following heavy rains last week.
