North Stafford, Va. — A man from Woodbridge faces charges after authorities said he took vacuums and coffee makers from two area stores.
Sheriff’s deputies were called to the Kohls department store at Stafford Marketplace in North Stafford on Saturday after a man walked into the store, picked up three coffee makers – each valued at $200 — sitting in the front of the store and then unsuccessfully tried to return them, said Stafford sheriff’s spokesman Bill Kennedy.
The man then took the coffee makers and left the store and went to his car outside, but and employee followed him outside, questioned him and asked the man to come back inside, said Kennedy. The man refused and placed the coffee makers on the ground, got in his car and left.
Shortly thereafter the man’s car was spotted on Va. 610 and sheriff’s deputies stopped the car in the parking lot of a fast food restaurant, where they arrested the driver without incident, said Kennedy.
An investigation revealed the same man is also suspected of stealing vacuums from a Target store Dec. 7, and is also being investigated by other police departments in the area and could possibly be linked to other vacuum lefts, said Kennedy.
Samuel Dicola, 47, of Woodbridge, is charged with shoplifting and with driving on a revoked license, said Kennedy.
Investigators are also looking into another shoplifting that was reported the day before.
One 18 and a 17-year-old male from Pennsylvania face charges after sheriff’s deputies were called to a shoe store at Stafford Marketplace.
The clerk at Famous Footwear in North Stafford called 911 Friday after witnessing a customer walk out of the store with a new pair of shoes without paying for them, said Kennedy. The alleged shoplifter’s friend who was also in the store, however, did not run and remained there when police showed up.
It turns out the two males had asked the clerk a question about some shoes, and when the clerk began to help other customers the one of the two made a break for it, placing his old shoes in a box, putting on the new ones on his feet and walked out, said Kennedy.
Deputies questioned the 17-year-old, who, authorities said, provided false information about the man he was with and the type of car they were both traveling in. Authorities also learned the two were on their way from Pennsylvania to Florida to see a friend, said Kennedy.
Deputies eventually saw a man matching the description given to them by the store clerk and went to arrest him. The man was walking to a car parked about 50 feet from the store’s entrance, said Kennedy.
The 17-year-old is charged with obstruction of justice and reportedly ran away from his home in Pennsylvania.
Dylan Ders, 18, of Athens, Pa., is charged with shoplifting, providing a false ID, and with contributing to the delinquency of a minor and was held with no bond, said Kennedy.
Authorities also said they found drug paraphernalia as well as a synthetic form of marijuana called Spice inside the car. Both also face drug charges, said Kennedy.
