Jessie seeks third term on Prince William School Board

LAKE RIDGE — Lillie G. Jessie is running to keep her seat on the Prince William County School Board.

I am currently in the process of taking the first steps to officially run for another four-year term as your Occoquan School Board representative. There are so many candidates for other offices this year. I did not want to announce my candidacy and start filing paperwork until the filing deadline for other candidates had passed.

Now that their process is over, it is time for me to acknowledge my candidacy officially. I will file the necessary forms, and begin the process of collecting the required number of Occoquan District voters signatures to be placed on the ballot.

Her husband, Richard Jessie, will serve as her campaign manager, she announced. She asked for other volunteers to help fill the roles of financial director, scheduler, and communications.

Jessie said she’s proud of her accomplishments since being elected to the School Board in 2012, to include working with parents throughout the Occoquan District to oppose boundary changes that would have moved children from elementary schools closest to their homes, and to advocate for new additions to school buildings and removing portable trailer classrooms from overcrowded schools.

Last month, Jessie unsuccessfully pushed for changes to the county school division’s mileage reimbursement policy that would have allowed School Board members to claim, and be reimbursed for travel to meetings within Prince William County. Currently, School Board members may request mileage for travel outside the jurisdiction.

Jessie was first elected to the School Board in fall 2012.

This week, Karen Boyd took to Potomac Local to announce she would challenge Jessie for the seat.
