STAFFORD — This video clearly shows where a new portion of Courthouse Road will connect with an entrance to Stafford Hospital.
The Stafford County Sheriff’s Office posted new drone video taken high above the Courthouse Road realignment project. The road is being moved slightly to the south to connect with Hospital Center Boulevard, at Stafford Hospital.
The relocation is aimed to ease congestion at the county’s courthouse, which sits at the busy intersection of Route 1 and the current Courthouse Road (Route 630). Once the realignment is complete, county officials aim to redevelop the area near the courthouse into a walkable, downtown area.
Along with the realignment, Courthouse Road is being widened from two to four lanes in each direction between Route 1 and Winding Creek Road.
Where Courthouse Road meets Interstate 95, a new diverging diamond interchange is being built. Using a series of signal lights, this new interchange will remove all left turns drivers would make to enter and exit the highway, alternating traffic from one side of the street to another.
The $150 million project is expected to be complete by July 2020.
