The region is under a severe thunderstorm warning from the National Weather Service.
At 7:55 p.m., the weather service spotted a line of potentially damaging storms moving from the northwest to the southeast.
The areas in the line of this storm include: Woodbridge, Dumfries, Montclair, Aquia Creek and Stafford.
The weather service urges residents in the line of the approaching storm to stay indoors and away from windows.
