Dumfries, Va. –– A house on Va. 234 near at the south entrance to Montclair went up in flames Monday night.

Dumfries-Triangle Volunteer Fire Department crews were called to 14208 Dumfries Road about 8 p.m. The house was fully involved in flames when crews arrived.

No one was inside the abandoned home and no one was injured.

“The home owner is on the scene, and they are actually in the process of tearing the house down,” said DTVFD Chief Miles Young.

No demolition or construction equipment was visible from the road at the time of the fire. A fire marshal still must determine the cause of the blaze, said Young.

The fire forced police to close a portion of Va. 234 at Washington-Reid Elementary School. Traffic was turned around at the school and sent back toward Waterway Drive.
