Woodbridge, Va. — It could be the first Spanish-speaking political debate in the Potomac Communities.
Virginia Senate candidate Tito Munoz today said he wants to debate his primary challenger Jeff Frederick (both are Republicans) to a debate where every spoken word is in Spanish.
Munoz, who was born in Columbia and emigrated to the U.S. in the mid 1970s and became a naturalized citizen in 2008, points out in a press release that Fredericks’ mother was born in Columbia but that Frederick was born in Fairfax County.
“This is a great opportunity for the voters of the 36th District, particularly the Hispanic population,” said Muñoz in a press release. “Since we have two Hispanic candidates for the Republican nomination, what better opportunity is there to reach out to our growing population? I hope Jeff agrees that our Hispanic brothers and sisters might like to be spoken to in their native language.”
The two candidates recently held a debate at Daks Grill on Minnieville Road in Woodbridge.
The two face off in a primary election August 23, and the winner of that election will go on to challenge Democrat Toddy Puller (D-36, — Mount Vernon, North Stafford, Woodbridge) in the general election November 8.
Munoz hosts “America Eres TU” (“America Is You”) on Radio WURA 920 AM in Quantico.
