Joe Ann Bass Gates, 79, passed away at her Nokesville home on Friday, September 29, 2017. She was born on March 24, 1938 in Wilson, NC. She graduated from Charles L. Coon High School in Wilson before marrying Teddy Griffin Gates and moving to Fairfax, VA in 1959.
Joe Ann had worked for over 40 years for Inova Health System and had previously served as an ER Admissions Manager at Fair Oaks Hospital. Joe Ann was a longtime former member of National Gardens Baptist Church in Falls Church, VA and Woodbine Baptist Church in Manassas. She was exceptionally devoted to her family.
Joe Ann was proceeded in death by her parents and her loving, devoted husband of 38 years, Teddy Griffin Gates. She is survived by her daughter Debra Gates Fortner, husband Ken and their children Haley Elizabeth and Gavin Bozarth of Richmond, VA; her son retired Marine Corps Major Teddy Griffin Gates, Jr., wife Tammie and their son Aiden Thomas of Marshall, VA; her sister Georgia OBriant and her brother Billy Bass.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, October 9 at Pierce Funeral Home, 9609 Center Street, Manassas, VA.
A service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 10, 2017, at Pierce Funeral Home, 9609 Center Street, Manassas, VA with interment following at Stonewall Memory Gardens, 12004 Lee Highway, Manassas, VA.
