Robert Michael Simon “Bob”, age 74, passed away on Thursday, September 7, 2017 in Manassas, VA after long battles with Frontal Temporal Dementia and ALS.
He was born on October 29, 1942 in Melrose, MA to the late Frank J. and Catherine (McCarthy) Simon. Bob had a successful 40-year career in counseling. He was the founder of Different Drum School in Fairfax, VA, past Director of The Mental Health Association in Alexandria, VA, counselor at Bishop Ireton High School in Alexandria, VA and lastly, he formed his own homebased counseling and mentoring program, Family TEAMWORK, Inc. in Northern Virginia. Bob was a strong advocate for youth, mental health and environmental preservation, including his dedication to: the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) and the Trillium Drop-in Center in Woodbridge, VA. He is survived by his wife, Cindy Ragan and son, Christopher Simon. A memorial service will take place at a later date.
