Greater Fredericksburg Habitat for Humanity will receive $700,000 in state and federal funding to build six affordable homes in the Mayfield neighborhood of Fredericksburg. The money comes from Virginia’s Affordable and Special Needs Housing (ASNH) program, administered by the Department of Housing and Community Development.
Executive Director Jayne Johnson said the group is “elated” by the funding, which will support a project on Davies Street. “This funding will be key to helping us construct the planned 6-home development,” she said in a release.
The grant is part of a larger $154.5 million funding announcement made by Governor Glenn Youngkin. In total, the program will support over 3,000 affordable and special needs housing units across the state — the largest single investment of its kind in Virginia’s history.
Greater Fredericksburg Habitat for Humanity has been serving the region since 1994, building and rehabilitating more than 30 homes across Fredericksburg, Stafford, Spotsylvania, and King George. The nonprofit says more than 3,000 volunteers have helped in its efforts to provide safe, affordable housing for families in need.
