Four Stafford County high school students are now the recipients of $8,000 of scholarship money.
The Stafford Education Foundation (SEF) recently awarded $2,000 scholarships to Aaryn Boatwright, of Colonial Forge High School, Karoline Colucci, of Mountain View High School, Crystan Rice, of North Stafford High School, and Jonathan Margrave, of Stafford High School. Students were notified they received a scholarship through videoconference technology.
The foundation provides scholarships annually to college-bound students who will pursue education as a career. The SEF awards $2,000 scholarships at each of Stafford County Public School’s (SCPS) five high schools for a total of $10,000 awarded annually. This year, SEF received applications from four of the five high schools and awarded accordingly. SEF donated the remaining funds to SCPS in support of the transition to At-Home Learning.
Students were thrilled to receive positive news and encouraging feedback from the scholarship committee.
“Thank you to the whole committee,” Mountain View High School recipient Karoline C.’s father said. “It’s been a tough month and a half or so, but it puts a smile on her face and we appreciate it.”
“I was at a loss for words when all of the committee members were being so uplifting,” North Stafford High School recipient Crystan R. said.
The encouragement did not stop with the scholarship announcement. Theresa Aberg, SCPS Supervisor of Human Resources, attended the virtual meeting to present recipients with a letter of intent that allows them to become a teacher after earning their teaching credentials.
“It is a great feeling knowing I’ll be able to get straight into [teaching] the moment I’m out [of college],” Colonial Forge High School recipient Aaryn B. said.
Scholarship recipients are grateful for the opportunities the SEF provided to them through monetary support and the intention to pursue a career in Stafford County.
“I would also like to just say thank you and commend the Foundation for their continued support in the
Stafford Community,” Stafford High School recipient Jonathan M. said.
The SEF’s mission is to advance education in Stafford County Public Schools through charitable activities that support sound educational programs and practices. The Foundation holds annual fundraising events throughout the year including a golf tournament and spring gala.
SEF further supports SCPS through innovative teaching grants, student scholarships, and other initiatives throughout the year.
