Virginia State Police are investigating the death of Prince William County detective.
Juan Pena was found dead just before 11 a.m. Tuesday. His death does not appear to be suspicious, according to Virginia State Police spokeswoman Corinne Geller.
Pena was a 15-year veteran of the police force. He served in the U.S. Army for seven years prior to joining the force.
Pena worked as a patrol officer for the first four years of duty. He became a school resource officer in 2007.
Pena had been assigned to the Violent Crimes Bureau where he worked robbery cases, and more recently homicides cases.
“Juan cared deeply for his family, friends, and fellow department members, and his smile and kind heart showed everyday through his encounters with those he loved and cared for. His loss will be felt profound by all of us with the department and his memory will never be forgotten.”
