STAFFORD COUNTY, Va. — Stafford fire and rescue crews last night were called to a house fire in the southern portion of the county.
Lightning struck the roof of a home on River Ridge Lane at 5:25 p.m.. When crews arrived, they saw heavy smoke coming from the roof of the house and a fire in the attic, according to Fire Chief Mark Lockhart.
No injuries were reported, and the fire is estimated to have caused $5,000 in damage.

Fire and EMS units from the Berea, Hartwood, Stafford, Brooke, Garrisonville, Falmouth, and Mountain View stations were on the scene. The cause of the fire was determined to be a lightning strike and damage wad estimated at $5,000.
