This past weekend, the Manassas BATtle 7-year old baseball team won the Varina Youth Sports Invitational Tournament.
Their championship was two weeks in the making, as Manassas traveled to the Richmond area two weeks prior only to have the tournament completely rained out.
Manassas went undefeated over the weekend. Their first win of the tournament came against New Kent, with a 3-0 shutout in which the BATtle defense held New Kent to just two hits.
They followed that win with a dramatic come from behind win against the Varina All-Stars. Trailing 12-3 after three innings, Manassas battled back with 15 unanswered runs, including a 10 run top of the 6th to win by a decisive 18-12 margin. That set up a trip to Sunday’s championship game were the BATtle met up with New Kent again. In a hard fought game, Manassas prevailed 13-6 to take home the championship!
This was the BATtle’s second championship in a row at Varina, having previously won the teeball division last summer in 2012.
