STAFFORD COUNTY, Va. — Three volunteer firefighters from Falmouth were taken to an area hospital this afternoon after their fire truck crashed while en route to a reported house fire.
One of the men was taken to a hospital by ambulance for evaluation, and two others were also evaluated by medical staff. Two of the men suffered injuries that did not appear to be life threatening, while a third man was still waiting to be evaluated.
The Stafford County Sheriff’s Office is investigating what led to the crash and has yet to release any information.
The crash happened at 11:30 a.m. in the 900 block of Brooke Road in Stafford County. Fire Chief Mark Lockhart said the rig flipped over on its side while it was headed to the 1400 block of Brooke Road where the house fire call originated. It turned out to be a minor incident, which was handled by the first arriving unit on the scene.
The fire truck was called from the Falmouth station to assist firefighters from Brooke, which was the first units called to the scene.
A portion of Brooke Road was closed for accident investigation, but was set to reopen shortly before 5 p.m., said Lockhart.
