WOODBRIDGE, Va. — Prince William police are honoring one of their own today.
Black ribbon was draped over the door , police motorcycles and cruisers at the Gar-Field Eastern District Police Station in Woodbridge this morning after the line-of-duty death of 35-year-old Prince William police Officer Chris Yung, who was killed yesterday on Va. 28 near Manassas. Yung, who patrolled on a police motorcycle, collided with a mini-van that was making a left turn into a shopping center at Piper Lane about 2 p.m. Monday.
No other injuries were reported and no charges have been filed in the crash.
Yung was described as a positive person who always had a smile on his face. He also inspired other members of the Yung family to join the force – his brother Dale, and sister-in-law are both police officers. His wife was also a police officer in Prince William County, said department spokesman Jonathan Perok.
A 7-year veteran of the force, Yung also served in the Marine Corps before joining the Prince William County Police Department.
Relatives and fellow officers have taken to an Officer Down Memorial Page to comment and share condolences for Officer Yung:
Officer Chris Yung, you were a great father, husband, brother, and friend. You were a proud Marine and patron. You served a tour in Iraq only to return home to continue your patronage by becoming a police officer. Your heart was big and all you wanted to do is help people and make a difference which you did.
You always put others before you. You had a smile that could light up a room and can never be forgotten. You always challenged yourself and strived to do better. You were always there in the time of need. You had a way of doing business and still have someone thank you for doing your job.
You have many brothers and sisters in blue that are great full to have met you or graced with your presence. You were my role model and were the reason why I pursued my dream of being a police officer. You did not deserve to leave so soon nor go out the way you did. You will be greatly missed but you will live on through all of our hearts. You will be a hero that won’t be forgotten. I love you, my brother.

Chris, I still can’t believe you are no longer with us. I just saw your picture on the news and you were smiling as always. This is so difficult to type. I remember your first day at work in D-East roll call. I’m sure you remember the first day also because they are memorable.
Your locker was close to mine and we shared laughs before roll call and at the end of our shift. We all shared so many good times together at work and on our off time. We will never forget your laugh and especially your kidness. I don’t believe anyone could say anything bad about you, except of course the people who you arrested.
We sure missed you when you left the squad to go to the Motors Unit. We gave you a hard time when you left, but we knew how much you loved to ride motorcycles. You were the first Ofc Yung and you brought us many more. You proudly served your country as a Marine and your community as a Police Officer. We all go to work everyday knowing that we aren’t promised tomorrow. We do it because we are programmed differently than “normal people”.
You died doing what you loved to do, riding and serving the community. I drive over 1 hour to work just to work with people like you. You will be enshrined in our hearts forever and you will NEVER be forgotten!
Robin, Dale, Nancy, and family: There are no words to describe what you and your family are experiencing right now. We will always be here for you all. Chris is a brother to ALL of us.
