Daniel Rimkus has played his fair share of basketball games at the Manassas Boys & Girls Club. But what happens when you are too old to play?
Rimkus’ answer to that question is quite clear: you give back to the program that has given you so much over the years.
Basketball at the Boys & Girls Club is for children between the ages of five and 17-years-old. Many children start off in the younger divisions and work their way through the ranks until they outgrow the league.
Rimkus is an 18-year-old that may have outgrown the league but has not outgrown Boys & Girls Clubs. He’s an official head coach of a team with players 13 to 17-year olds.
Through volunteer coach’s meetings, practices, and games, Rimkus has been there from the start. While coaching a team filled with players that are so close to own age, he makes a clear distinction between being a peer and being their leader.
Rimkus encouraged his friends that are also too old to play to come out and volunteer as well. They have taken on the rolls of assistant coaches and are at every game on the sideline with Daniel, who helps to make the Boys & Girls Clubs a great place for youth.
