GOLDVEIN, Va. — Two small planes collided over Fauquier County just Sunday killing two people.
One of them burst into flames upon impact, and two bodies were found inside the plane which seats six. The male pilot of the second plane survived the crash, was conscious and talking to Virginia State Police deputies on the scene, and was taken to Mary Washington Hospital, said state police spokeswoman Corinne Geller.
The planes crashed to the ground one mile apart from each other near Goldvein, and plane parts are scattered between the two crash sites. There are no reports of any injuries from anyone on the ground.
The National Transportation Safety Board, and the Federal Aviation Administration, and the Virginia State Police were on the scene investigating the crash Sunday night, said Geller.
Investigators don’t know what caused the crash, and the bodies found inside the wreckage of the first plane were sent to the medical examiner’s office for identification.
