Stafford County, Va. — A bizarre pursuit involving the Stafford sheriff’s office landed one woman in jail.
A driver called 911 at 9:23 p.m. Monday after she was sitting on Staffordboro Boulevard waiting to make a left turn onto Va. 610 in North Stafford.
While waiting, another car – a green Ford Mustang — hit the victim’s from behind and kept going, authorities said. As the victim continued driving and was now in the area of Va. 610 and Interstate 95, the female driver in the Mustang passed the victim and gave her thumbs up and continued onto I-95 south, said Stafford sheriff’s spokesman Bill Kennedy.
The victim’s car sustained significant damage, added Kennedy.
A short time later, another sheriff’s deputy spotted the Mustang while traveling on Va. 218 in south Stafford County, near a Giant food store near Town and Country Drive. The deputy pursued the car which was now headed in the direction of King George County in the area of Caisson Road, said Kennedy.
The deputy turned on his lights and siren, and then noticed the Mustang was still operating though the car had a only a rim where its fourth tire should have been, said Kennedy.
The driver of the Mustang eventually stopped the car in on Chapel Green Road, was questioned and subsequently arrested.
Cassandra Tilley, 35, of Bully Hill Road, in King George, is charged with driving without on a suspended license, driving under the influence of drugs, with hit and run, and with refusal to take a breathalyzer test, said Kennedy.
She was jailed without bond.
