Stafford, Va. — Those at Stafford Hospital on Saturday were not only dispensing life-saving drugs, they were collecting them as well.
The medical center served as a drop off site for the annual National Drug Take Back Day, an effort by local and federal law enforcement to collect unused prescription drugs.
During the collection, one man brought in used hazardous medical needles, or sharps, to dispose of them in addition to medication.
Once the drugs are collected they are destroyed, preventing them from ending up in the area water supply by being disposed of improperly, officials said.
In Woodbridge, Potomac Mills mall served as a prescription medication drop off point.
