North Stafford, Va. — A North Stafford High School student faces charges after police say he hit an officer in the face.
A Stafford sheriff’s deputy was standing in the commons area of the high school on Va. 610 in North Stafford at 12:45 p.m. Tuesday when a student walked up to the deputy and said another student wanted to fight him.
The student pointed out his would-be attacker to the deputy, and the law enforcement officer approached the student, said Stafford sheriff’s spokesman Bill Kennedy.
The 16-year-old male student became combative with the deputy and began cursing and him and would not comply with requests to come to the school’s office to talk about what was happening. Eventually, said Kennedy, the student hit the deputy in the face.
Afterward, the deputy and another school administrator were able to detain the student and bring him to the office.
The 16-year-old faces felony assault charges, resisting arrest and a disorderly conduct charge, said Kennedy.
He was taken to the county’s juvenile detention center.
