Retaining Wall Fails, Ground Shifts

Stafford, Va. — The occupants of two homes were evacuated Saturday after retaining walls behind their homes failed.

The residents of the houses at 116 and 118 Brush Everard Court called 911 to report the ground outside their home had shifted. Fire crews later found the retaining walls had failed and that there had been a significant shift in the ground, said Stafford fire and rescue spokesman Mark Doyle.

Occupants in both homes were relocated and did not need assistance from the Red Cross, said Doyle.

This latest retaining wall failure comes after a retaining wall in Woodbridge failed last week following torrential rains that caused flooding in the area.
