Despite the gates to Government Island being closed and locked, there were dozens of people along Aquia Creek, on the foot-bridges and on the island itself in North Stafford on Sunday afternoon taking advantage of the pleasant post-hurricane weather.
Some people walked their dogs, some fished in the now faster-moving water, while others hiked the path.
There was no visible damage or flooding to Government Island. Only leaves, twigs and small, broken branches littered the path.
