FREDERICKSBURG, Va. –– Nearly 100 Lost Dawgs found their way to three animal rescue facilities on Saturday.

Members of the motorcycle club held a poker run to benefit the Fredericksburg Regional SPCA’s No-kill Humane Care Center.

The bikers left Big Daddy Leather at 1900 Princess Ann St. on an 80-mile ride that took them to three local shelters.

In addition to the Fredericksburg SPCA, the bikers also drew a card for their poker hand at the Caroline Animal Shelter, and the Stafford SPCA.

The Lost Dawgs rendezvoused at Barefoot’s at 1017 Sophia St. to draw their final card and determine the best and worst hand. They also got to meet and greet two dogs currently available for adoption at the Fredericksburg SPCA.

Executive Director Debra Joseph arranged for a Golden Retriever mix named Joe and a Jack Russell Terrier mix named Popeye to attend the festivities. Both dogs seemed to thoroughly enjoy the attention they received while visiting with the bikers.

Bikers paid $15 and passengers paid $10 to ride in the inaugural event. The Lost Dawgs also had several corporate sponsors that donated prizes and services for the benefit.

According to “Taz Dawg” the organizers had already tallied about $3K in donations even before the last bike rolled into Barefoot’s. But he expected that amount to grow before the event was over as riders were still bidding on auction items and buying raffle tickets.

“We plan to hold the ride annually,” said Taz Dawg. “And the money collected will go to a different SPCA each year.”

The Lost Dawgs Motorcycle Club maintain a high visibility in the community hosting benefit rides each year to support area charities.
