Shot of the Week: Eye-Popping Fish

While covering an event held Monday at the historic home of George Mason, Gunston Hall, I took some time to check out the kitchen on the property.

I didn’t stay long, as it was over 90 degrees outside and the kitchen, which dates back to when the home was built, had a roaring fireplace inside.

After watching one of the cooks strap a whole fish to a wooden plank and set it by the fire to cook, a visitor asked “how do you know when it’s done?”

The cook replied, “when it’s eyes pop out.”

“Oh, like a Pop-up timer on a turkey!” replied the visitor.

I am sorry but I didn’t want to stick around to see that, I’ll just have to take her word for it.

The fish is done cooking when its eyes pop out. (Mary Davidson/PotomacLocal.com)
