There’s plenty to do this Memorial Day Weekend, and if you’d rather avoid the DC traffic, use the PotomacLocal.com calendar to stay close to home!
Friday is the kickoff for a new event at Mt. Vernon called “Sunset Celebration”. This family-friendly event will include evening tours, period music and dancing, wagon rides, lantern-lit tours and visits with Lady Washington and her granddaughter.
Saturday, Cranford United Methodist Church in Lorton will host their annual Strawberry Festival and invites the community to come out and enjoy the festivities. Further south, Ferry Farm, George Washington’s boyhood home, will be having a Memorial Day Civil War event.
If you don’t want to head into DC for Rolling Thunder but you’d like to get your motorcycle fix, many local communities will have events to send off riders heading in for the event. In Woodbridge, try heading to the VFW on Minnieville Road at 8 a.m. on Saturday where a group will ride down Cardinal Drive to Benita Fitzgerald Drive before going to Interstate 95 via Dale Boulevard on Saturday.
Sunday, the National Museum of the Marine Corps will be hosting the Band of America’s Few for a patriotic concert commemorating Memorial Day. Wolf Trap, a short drive for our Lorton Readers, will host the President’s Own United States Marine Band.
