2 Indicted After Bomb Found, Detonated

North Stafford, Va. –– Indictments were handed down today after a bomb was found at a home in North Stafford late last year.

Stafford sheriff’s deputies were searching a home at 5 Catherine Way during an unrelated incident when they found what appeared to be an explosive device.

The Fire Marshals office was called to the scene, and they called Virginia State Police who removed the device and detonated it, said Stafford fire and rescue spokesman Mark Doyle.

No one was injured, but the fire department described the device as “one that is intended to cause harm to persons based on its construction.” It was not designed to cause damage to structures, added Doyle.

Cody Compton, 20, and Jonathon Clark, 21, face charges of possession of an explosive device, said Doyle.

Compton is scheduled to appear in court Aug. 17 on charges of grand larceny, burglary and destruction of property, according to court records.

“The mission of the fire service has changed tremendously in the last decade,” said Stafford County Fire Chief Rob Brown in a press release. “Unfortunately, our department is responding to a greater number of incidents involving homemade explosive devices. Oftentimes these devices are a result of curious experimentation which can result in deadly consequences.”

The exact date the incident occurred, nor Compton or Clark’s court date for these latest charges was not released.
