Prosecutors will not seek the death penalty for a man who was featured on America’s Most Wanted, accused of killing his mother and her boyfriend in Oregon.
Prince William police in February 2010 captured 33-year-old Gabriel Morris in Dumfries, while he, his wife and daughter were hiding from police.
They were staying with an unsuspecting homeowner at a home at Curtis and Dominion drives in the Prince William Estates neighborhood in Dumfries. The homeowner turned the family into authorities after they saw Morris’ picture on the America’s Most Wanted website.
As Morris exited the home the morning he was captured, police swooped in and arrested him.
Following the capture, Morris and his wife were jailed and their child went to live with the mother’s parents in Idaho.
Now in court proceedings, Morris waived his right to a jury trial and a judge will now decide his fate, reports KPTV.
Prosecutors also say other factors in the case led them to the decision not to seek the death penalty.
Morris is expected back in an Oregon courtroom August 9.
