Walmart Expanding

North Stafford, Va. –– Walmart in North Stafford is expanding to offer more groceries.

The big box store that sits at the intersection of Garrisonville Road (Va. 610) Mine Road is upgrading to be more consistent with newer stores, and will add a grocery section to the store, according to Stafford County spokeswoman Cathy Riddle based on plans filed with the county.

Walmart representatives have not returned multiple phone calls for this story.

The grand opening for the newly expanded store is scheduled to happen sometime in mid October, said Riddle.

Construction is now visible at the store, as the right side of the parking lot has been cordoned off so large machines can clear away dirt and other materials for the expansion.

The store remains open, though inside some shelves have been moved and temporary barriers set up to keep customers out of the construction area. The McDonald’s restaurant inside the store also remains open.

The newly expanded Walmart in North Stafford will join rival Target in selling a wider selection of groceries.

A newly expanded Target at Stafford Marketplace began selling groceries last year.
