Barricade situations ends after 2 hours

North Stafford, Va. –– A man barricaded himself inside a closet at his home Friday and threatened to kill himself.

Sheriff’s authorities were called to the home in the 700 block of Twin Brook Lane, off U.S. 1 in North Stafford about 6 p.m.

Investigators said the person who told authorities about the situation, a friend of the family, said the man could be armed with a gun, said Stafford sheriff’s spokesman Bill Kennedy.

Deputies worked for two and a half hours trying to communicate with the man, and afterward deputies entered the house, found the man inside a bedroom closet and arrested him without incident, said Kennedy.

The man was taken to a local hospital where his mental condition was evaluated.

Sheriff’s deputies searched the closet and found two rifles and a pellet gun, said Kennedy.

The man has not been identified.

No one was injured during the ordeal, and no nearby residents were forced from their homes though they were asked to stay inside and away from windows, said Kennedy.

This latest barricade situation comes less than a month after another man in Stafford County barricaded himself inside his home and threatened to harm himself.

That incident took place January 27 at a home off Courthouse Road.

Authorities took the man into custody and also found weapons in his house.
