Woodbridge, Va. — Just in time for summer weather, the Prince William Park Authority could be no more.
The authority, which has independent from the county government since its inception in 1977 , wants to become a department of the county government by June 30. If that happens, the authority would give up its current corporate structure and its executive board – a model its held since it was created by the Prince William County Board of Supervisors.

The Park Authority was established as a separate corporation in 1977, by the Board of County Supervisors, to provide the residents and visitors with quality recreational programs, parks and facilities. Today, Prince William County serves over 410,000 residents with 67 park properties comprising over 4,000 acres, and 289 fields. The majority of funding for the Park Authority comes from the County’s General Fund.
