Students in Stafford County are getting an extra week of summer vacation as the start of the school year has been pushed back for additional teacher training.

At their June 23 meeting, the Stafford County School Board approved an updated school calendar that both delays the start of the school year by one week and adds two additional days onto the academic year. These changes have caused the school year to now begin on Aug. 17 and end on May 28.

The Stafford County Board of Supervisors voted to begin applying funds received through the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act to various costs and expenditures at its recent meeting.

This first wave of funding will be applied to the fiscal year 2020 budget for costs relating to the coronavirus pandemic.

When this group talks about Starbucks, they aren’t discussing the newest latte or their favorite muffin, they talk about their stock in the coffee giant. Their share of stock in Starbucks has risen from $29.28 a share when they first got it in September of 2007, to the current value of about $75 a share.

A land swap deal between Stafford County and Jarrell Properties could mean the beginning of the development of Downtown Stafford.

The Stafford County Board of Supervisors has authorized a public hearing to take place on July 7 regarding a land swap of under 8,000 square feet between the county and Fredericksburg-based developer Jarrell Properties Inc. Should the land swap go forward, it could affect two projects that the county has in its plans for economic development.
