WOODBRIDGE, Va. — Just because there wasn’t any action on the baseball field today that doesn’t mean things weren’t hot at Pfitzner Stadium.
A skeleton crew of Potomac Nationals employees was inside the management offices at the Woodbridge baseball stadium just before 5 p.m. Friday when they smelled what they thought was natural gas. They evacuated the building, and no sooner did they get outside did they see flames shooting from windows, said Potomac Nationals General Manager Josh Olerud.

Vpstart Crow will hold by-appointment auditions for “Arsenic and Old Lace”, by Joseph Kesselring and directed by Rachael Murray, on Sunday, July 29 and Monday, July 30 between 7 and 10 p.m. each day.
Actors will be seen in 20-minute increments during this time and should schedule an appointment. Auditions will be held at the Hylton Performing Arts Center, 10960 George Mason Circle, Manassas, Virginia. Callbacks will be held on Tuesday, July 31 from 7 to 10 pm.

As kids journey farther down toward the ocean floor, Deep Sea Voyage Bible stories introduce people from the Old and New Testaments who show deep faith by depending on God, daring to care, claiming Jesus, choosing to follow, and changing the world.
The vacation bible school program is developed for students between kindergarten and 6th grade, and takes place at Old Bridge United Methodist Church from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. July 9 through 13. A light fellowship meal is served from 5:45 to 6:20 p.m.
LORTON, Va. — Shiloh Baptist Church in Lorton, presents their Pastor’s 10th Anniversary Celebration Weekend. This free event is scheduled to take place on Saturday, July 7, at 10704 Gunston Road in Lorton from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

As part of the “Let’s Move” initiative to raise a healthier generation of kids, the National Park Trust is hosting “National Kids to Parks Day” on May 19. People nationwide are being encouraged to sign up on via website and pledge to take their children outside to a park that day. Several parks in or near the Potomac Communities are participating by hosting events in honor of the day.
Last year, NOVA Fortnightly, the newspaper of Northern Virginia Community College, became the first publication of the college to ever win a Virginia Press Association award.
Traci J. Brooks, Joshua Davis and Ling Lee won awards in photography and photo illustration for work published in 2010. They competed against mainstream newspapers.
