Abortion rights, inflation, crime, the “radicalization” of U.S. politicians and the survival of democracy itself were among the issues weighing heavily on the minds of some of the voters who cast their ballots on Saturday, Nov. 5 — the last day of early voting before Tuesday’s general election.
While standing in line to vote early at the Woodbridge DMV Saturday afternoon, Michael Leyva, 21, of Woodbridge, said the No. 1 issue on his mind this year is abortion rights, which is why he said he planned to vote for incumbent U.S. Representative Abigail Spanberger (D) over her Republican challenger Yesli Vega.
Stop the tax madness. Vote for Rick Bookwalter, Theresa Coates Ellis, and Lynn Forkell Greene for Manassas City Council on Tuesday, November 8.
Councilwomen Greene & Ellis encourage residents to vote for balance on Election Day, Tuesday, November 8. Together with Rick Bookwalter, they can bring balance to the city council and fight future tax increases.
Manassas City residents petitioned for car tax relief when a 4-2 vote left them overtaxed and underwhelmed with the current budget process. Councilwomen Lynn Forkell Greene and Theresa Coates Ellis voted no but were outnumbered in May.
Tomorrow is Election Day across Virginia. Polls open at 6 a.m. and close at 7 p.m.
This year’s big races in our area are congressional seats in Virginia’s 7th District (Abigail Spanberger (D) / Yesli Vega (R) and in Virginia’s 10th District (Jennifer Wexton (D) / Hung Cao (R).
Republican Rep. Liz Cheney of Wyoming publicly endorsed Democratic Rep. Abigail Spanberger of Virginia on Saturday, saying the former CIA officer is “dedicated to serving this country and her constituents and defending our Constitution.”
The cross-party endorsement, first reported by the Washington Post, came as Spanberger made her closing pitch on the final day of early voting in the swing district before the midterm elections on Tuesday.

Late last month, a post on pwperspective.com, a website that features political news from Prince William County and touts itself as “Virginia’s anti-racist voice,” posted a hit piece about Manassas City Councilwoman Lynn Forkell Greene, whose running for re-election on November 8.
Light on details, the post accurately reported someone filed a grievance against Forkell Greene while she was still on the city’s Parks and Recreation Committee before she was elected to the City Council in November 2021. The author, and website founder John Reid, didn’t bother to report on the nature of the grievance, who filed it, or whatever came of it.
