The effort to vaccinate the Fredericksburg region from the coronavirus has stalled.
According to the presentation given by the Rappahannock Area Health District given to the Stafford County Board of Supervisors, as of May 4, 92,013 doses of vaccine have been administered to residents. Of those numbers, just under 55,000 or 40% of that number have gotten at least one shot, while 26.1% have been fully vaccinated.

The Prince William Health District will resume the use of the Johnson and Johnson one dose COVID-19 vaccine. The Virginia Department of Health has directed vaccine providers to begin the use of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine consistent with a review by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and Food and Drug Administration.
The use of this vaccine is recommended based on the FDA and CDC findings that the vaccine is safe and effective in preventing COVID-19, the vaccine’s benefits outweighing known and potential risks in people 18 and older. Review of the data showed a low chance of blood clots and low platelets (thrombosis-thrombocytopenia syndrome) in the almost 8 million people who received the vaccine. The FDA and CDC will continue to investigate this risk.
The Virginia Department of Health’s Rappahannock Area Health District will expand its coronavirus vaccination efforts to Phase 2 beginning Friday, April 9, 2021. Anyone age 16 and over in Caroline, King George, Spotsylvania, and Stafford counties and Fredericksburg will be eligible to receive the coronavirus vaccine.
“We are excited to expand vaccination opportunities for all community members,” said Dr. Denise Bonds, Acting Director of the Rappahannock Area Health District. “We urge all residents to take this opportunity to pre-register to receive the vaccine, as this is the fastest way to initiate the scheduling process.”
