Military Bands Bring the Sound of Summer to the Marine Corps Museum

QUANTICO, Va. – A summer tradition returns to Northern Virginia with a patriotic lineup of performances from some of the nation’s top military ensembles. The 2025 Summer Concert Series at the National Museum of the Marine Corps continues on Thursday, July 3, with a performance by the U.S. Marine Corps Battle Color Detachment.

Hosted by the Marine Corps Heritage Foundation, the free concert series celebrates 250 years of Marine Corps music, tradition, and pride. Each performance begins at 7 p.m. and takes place on select Thursdays through August 28 on the museum grounds at 1775 Semper Fidelis Way in Triangle.

Fireworks, Food, and Free Shuttles—Here’s What’s Happening for July 4 Around Quantico and Fredericksburg

QUANTICO, Va. – Independence Day celebrations are gearing up across the region, with events planned in both Fredericksburg and at Marine Corps Base Quantico in honor of America’s 249th birthday—and the 250th anniversary of the United States Marine Corps.

On Wednesday, July 3, Marine Corps Base Quantico will host a special celebration at Lejeune Field from 4 to 9:30 p.m., featuring a fireworks show at 9 p.m. The event is open to authorized ID card holders and promises an evening packed with family-friendly fun. Attendees can enjoy live music from Huntley—winner of the 2023 season of The Voice—and the band Full Moon Fever, plus food trucks, inflatables, a rock wall, and more. The event marks the start of festivities commemorating the Marine Corps’ 250th year.

Heads Up: Quantico’s About to Get Loud with Live-Fire Drills This Week

QUANTICO, Va. – Expect some noise this week if you live near Marine Corps Base Quantico, as a series of intensive live-fire training events are set to begin Tuesday, May 28, and run through Thursday, June 6.

According to a notice from Marine Corps Base Quantico, the exercises will kick off with a smaller-scale live-fire event from May 28 at 8 a.m. through May 30 at 4 p.m., including the use of fragmentation grenades, small explosive charges under 50 pounds, and weapons firing 5.56mm rounds and below.

Volunteers Plant Flags at Quantico National Cemetery for Memorial Day

QUANTICO, Va. – On May 19, community volunteers gathered at Quantico National Cemetery to plant American flags at the gravesites of fallen service members, preparing the hallowed ground for upcoming Memorial Day ceremonies.

According to a Facebook post from Quantico Marine Corps Base, the effort honors the men and women who served their country honorably and made the ultimate sacrifice in its defense. “The community comes together on Memorial Day to honor service members,” the post reads. Photos of the event, taken by Lance Cpl. Harleigh Faulk, show volunteers solemnly placing flags across the cemetery’s expansive grounds.
