PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY — (Press Release) The Prince William County Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. (PWCAC-DST) will host its 29th annual Dr. Martin Luther King Program & Youth Oratorical Contest on Monday, January 21st at 11 a.m. at the Hylton Memorial Chapel, 14640 Potomac Mills Road, Woodbridge, VA.

Six students in grades 6-12, representing schools from Prince William County, Manassas City, and Manassas Park will display their oratorical skills. Fourth and fifth graders from the area elementary schools are invited to participate in a writing contest.  The essay contest provides an opportunity for elementary students to participate in some aspect of the King celebration and the winners are announced on the day of the program.

STAFFORD — (Press Release) Officials are asking for citizen comments regarding the top-scoring road projects identified by a road evaluation. County staff presented an analysis of 114 roads/road segments to the Board of Supervisors in November 2018.

The Board directed staff to conduct further research on 63 roads/road segments, to include recommended improvements and cost estimates for those improvements. A broad range of criteria was used to score each road, to better identify those roads meriting a higher priority for improvement as well as the types of improvements required.

PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY — (Press Release)  On January 4 at 9:13 a.m., officers responded to a property located in the 14300 block of Dumfries Road near the Prince William County Public Schools Kelly Leadership Center in Independent Hill to investigate a death.

The caller reported to police that a body was discovered lying in a field at the location. The caller, and other individuals, were at the site to survey the property for upcoming construction. The victim, initially identified as a male, was pronounced dead at the scene. The body was transported to the Medical Examiner’s Office where an autopsy was completed and the identity of the victim was confirmed.

STAFFORD — Ferry Farm Elementary School will be getting a $10 million renovation.

The Stafford County School Board chose this option instead of rebuilding the school from the ground up. The School Board voted to start phase one of the renovation during a special called meeting on Dec. 4, 2018.

MANASSAS PARK — A growing number of drivers are parking their vehicles in Manassas Park neighborhoods. And, it’s becoming an issue city leaders must address.

“There’s only so much space,” said  Donald Shuemaker, a councilman on the Manassas Park Governing Body. “Our population is growing.”


BRISTOW — (Press Release) On January 2, officers responded to investigate two suspicious person calls involving a man who is believed to be involved in both incidents.

The incidents were reported in the area of Nokesville Road in Manassas (20109) with the first encounter occurring around 2:20 p.m. when an unknown man approached a 17-year-old female as she was getting out of her vehicle in front of the Target located at 9900 Sowder Village Sq. During the encounter, the male told the female that he needed help programing a GPS device then asked her to get into his vehicle.


WOODBRIDGE — (Press Release) After consultation with the Commonwealth Attorney’s Office regarding the investigation into the fatal crash that occurred at the intersection of Opitz Blvd and River Rock Way in Woodbridge on December 4, investigators with the Crash Investigation Unit have charged the driver of the 2008 Toyota Camry with failure to yield on a left turn. The driver of the Camry, identified as Nusrat Jahan PRITHEE, was served with a court summons on January 2.
