PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY — Prince William County is well into its second phase of a pilot archery deer management program that began last year.

If it goes well, the program could become permanent. The pilot stage last year only operated at three sites for six weeks. This year the number of sites has increased to 10 locations and the time for the hunt has lengthened from October 6 to November 16 and then again from December 2 to February 28.

George E. May, 72, of Stafford, passed away on Tuesday, December 25, 2018, at Vibra Hospital in Richmond, Va.

He was surrounded by his loving family. Survivors include his wife, Jeanie, his son, George and his wife, Carolanne of Stafford, his brother, Tom May and his wife, Judy, of Stafford, his sisters, Nancy Tarbell, Sally Lindsay, Therese Hone and her husband Micky of Shirley, Massachusetts, his sister, Barbara Colon and her husband Danny, of Boca Raton, Florida, two grandchildren, Christian McKenzie of Radcliff, Kentucky and Sarah May of Stafford and numerous nieces and nephews.

PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY — (Press Release) The Prince William County Criminal Justice Academy Basic Law Enforcement 43rd Session graduated on Friday, December 21, 2018, at 10 a.m. at the Hylton Performing Arts Center, 10960 George Mason Circle, in Manassas.

This class was composed of 22 Prince William County Police officers and one Prince William County Sheriff deputy.

STAFFORD – (Press Release) Mrs. Karen Bingham will assume the position of Assistant Principal at North Star Early Childhood Education Center.

Mrs. Bingham is currently the Assistant Principal at Conway Elementary School and has been in that role since 2017. She also served as the Assistant Principal at Rockhill Elementary from 2010 to 2017.

STAFFORD — The turnover rate at the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office has long been a problem.

“The turnover of personnel is a significant issue because deputy sheriffs receive basic, continuing and specialty training at a significant effort and cost to the county and the sheriff’s office,” Sheriff David Decatur wrote in an email to Potomac Local.

STAFFORD — (Press Release) Stafford Hospital, part of the Mary Washington Healthcare system, welcomed the first baby of the new year born in the Fredericksburg region.

Baby Jhkai Malcolm Obie was born just past midnight at 12:01 a.m., to Shakiyla Masond and Jerome Odie.  He was greeted by a room full of family, friends, hospital nurses and his big sister, Ah’maya, 7 years old.  This bundle of joy weighed in at 7 lbs. 8 oz., 20 inches long, with a beautiful head of jet black hair.
