MANASSAS — The Manassas Symphony Orchestra will be joined by the Madrigal Singers of Osbourn Park High School for Beethoven Festival, an all-Beethoven performance at 7:30 pm on May 4,  at the Hylton Performing Arts Center.

The Madrigal Singers perform under the direction of Dominic Izzo, the vocal teacher at Osbourn Park High School.  Accompanied by the MSO under the direction of James Villani, they will perform Beethoven’s Mass in C Major (Kyrie, Gloria), and the ‘Hallelujah’ from ‘Christ on the Mount of Olives’.

It is with great sadness that the family of Fred Ernest Young Jr. Announces his unexpected passing, on Tuesday, April 16, 2019, at the age of 44 years.

WOODBRIDGE — Delegate Elizabeth Guzman says she’s on her way to winning back her seat in the Virginia House of Delegates.

Guzman issued a statement Monday saying’s raised $66,000 since ending the legislative session the last week of February. Guzman has drawn support from Virginia donors since her election in 2017, raising over $200,000 toward her re-election effort on November 5, she says.

PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY — Volunteers fanned out Saturday to clean up the region’s waterways.

The annual Friends of the Occoquan Spring Clean Up drew 229 volunteers, who came to pick up trash along the Occoquan River & Reservoir at the Bull Run, Fountainhead, Occoquan Regional Park, parks and marinas in Lake Ridge, and the Town of Occoquan.

The national recognition form the International Economic Development Council denotes a mastery of skills in economic development, professional attainment and a commitment to personal and professional growth.


Obituaries

Powell Norman Thorpe, age 87, passed away on April 13, 2019 at Caton Merchant House in Manassas, VA.

Mr. Thorpe is a U.S. Army Veteran who served in the Korean War. He worked at the Fairfax Water Authority as a water tester; after retiring he enjoyed rebuilding old cars.

Bobby D. Tulin, 54, of Warrenton died at his home on Sunday, April 14, 2019, surrounded by loving family.

He worked as a Construction Supervisor and was a member of the Life Church. He enjoyed working on hot rods and old cars, was a fan of outdoor sports like fishing and was an avid hockey fan. He cherished time spent with family.

STAFFORD — An elderly woman died early Monday morning after a tree crashed through her residence during a storm that swept through Stafford County.

On April 15, 2019, at approximately 1:43 a.m., deputies responded to an assist rescue at a residence located on Doyle Place. During the storm, a tree fell on the residence, injuring an 82- year-old man and killing a 78-year-old female subject who was asleep inside, states Stafford sheriff’s office spokeswoman Amanda Vicinanzo.
