NORTH STAFFORD — Drivers on Garrisonville Road should get ready to see more flashing yellow signal lights.

The Virginia Department of Transportation will install a new flashing yellow signal light at the intersection of Garrisonville Road (Route 610) and Parkway Boulevard, at the entrance to Park Ridge.

MANASSAS – (Press Release) Norfolk Southern Railroad crossing work will require midday closures (weather permitting) Monday, March 11 through Thursday, March 14 and Monday, March 18 for rail replacement by Norfolk Southern, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation.

The closures at the railroad crossings (shown on the map with black circles) will occur as follows:


OCCOQUAN – (Press Release) On Saturday, April 20, 2019, participating Occoquan businesses flying yellow balloons will display creative dioramas using marshmallow Easter Peeps.

Dioramas can be based on current events, community happenings, politics, movies, art, science fiction, and fantasy. Visitors to Occoquan will judge each diorama, vote for their favorites, and enter the drawing to win a Peep Swag Bag.

RICHMOND — The General Assembly’s 2019 session was a disappointment for LGBTQ advocates as most legislation on health care, marriage and legal protections on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity failed. But activists are not giving up.

“I would encourage people not to be discouraged because we are going to be back next year,” said Bill Harrison, president of Diversity Richmond, which supports cultural, health and other programs for the LGBTQ community.

MANASSAS – (Press Release) Write by the Rails (WbtR), the Prince William Chapter of the Virginia Writer’s Club, has released its anthology of Twitter-friendly writings entitled #BackOnTrackNow: A Write by the Rails Anthology and Social Media Initiative.

The works of 22 authors were chosen for inclusion in the unique book, the result of a three-month campaign designed to bring creativity to social media. Members and non-members, mostly from the east coast, were encouraged to submit their work, publish it through their own social profiles and have it shared through WbtR’s social media channels and networks.

STAFFORD — A wider Courthouse Road will come with upgraded water and sewer infrastructure ahead of what Stafford leaders hope will be a new centralized downtown for the county.

The Stafford County Board of Supervisors authorized a betterment agreement with a contracting firm to upgrade the water and sewer infrastructure along Interstate 95 and Courthouse Road near both the county courthouse and Route 1.

MANASSAS — A potential solar farm project at Manassas Regional Airport is being put on hold, as staff continues to research options to keep it cost-effective.

The farm would be placed on a portion of property identified as a flood plain, which makes traditional development on it challenging.
