Dumfries is looking more veteran-friendly these days.
The town is now Virginia Values Veterans certified, which means it has demonstrated a commitment to recruiting, hiring and retaining Virginia Veterans.
Some businesses make it a point to pay their local taxes, while some others don’t. And it’s those businesses who don’t that have city leaders up in arms.
The Manassas City Council on Monday voted 4-1 to change the way penalties are assessed on those who pay their property taxes late. The city has been charging 10% of the total amount owed if the tax is paid one day late.
Historic Dumfries and the Weems-Botts Museum, fittingly, commemorated the birthday month of George Washington with the dedication of a historical marker dedicated to George Washington and the Cherry Tree story.
