Derek D. Miller, Jr was born on June 23,1995 in Fort Belvoir, VA to Brenda Reed Miller and Derek D. Miller, Sr.  Derek was raised in Prince William County attending Rippon Middle School and Forest Park High School before moving to Columbia, SC in 2008 where he attended Summit Park School and graduated from Blythewood High School in 2013. He attended Mississippi State University from 2013 – 2015.

Derek Jr enjoyed playing football; from Rippon Middle School to Mississippi State University and was a part of and Captain of his school’s football team.  Derek Jr. placed joy in many people and had big dreams for life.   He was full of life and business ideas. He will always be remembered as a social butterfly as he loved the life he lived as well as the people that surrounded him. Derek Jr. will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by all those he touched. He will never be forgotten, and his spirit will live forever.

Spike Cohen, the vice-presidential candidate for the Libertarian Party will be meeting with supporters on Friday in Manassas.

Cohen and his running mate, Dr. Jo Jorgenson, have been crossing the country rally support for their campaign. Cohen’s stop in Manassas begins a three-week bus tour across the country. The coronavirus and the nation’s response to the pandemic it sparked is a key campaign issue for the Libertarians.

Hispanics in Manassas, much like the rest of the U.S., have a high prevalence of coronavirus cases.

After partnering with the CDC to conduct a survey of potential coronavirus patients, Prince William Health District Director Dr. Alison Ansher told the Manassas City Council on July 27 that many city residents have been hit hard by the pandemic. 


Business

The owner of one Occoquan’ s most successful restaurant groups is expanding by taking two concepts and placing them under one roof.

A combination “Third Base Pizza and Frozen Custard” and “The Grind N Crepe”, which serves coffee and crepes, will open in September on Kevin Walker Drive in Montclair, next to Georgios. The new restaurant will fill take-out orders only, a service that has increased in popularity during the pandemic.


Politics

A multitude of Virginians mail in their ballots each election cycle, this year, however, thousands have received unsolicited and incorrectly labeled absentee ballot applications.

Earlier this week, the Prince William County Office of Elections released a statement stating that the office has been receiving ‘numerous phone calls and complaints’ regarding absentee ballot applications sent from The Center for Voter Information, a third-party organization unaffiliated with the state, or Prince William County Office of Elections.
