Virginia Mercury – Republican state Del. Ian Lovejoy wants to continue his work in the Virginia House of Delegates representing voters in part of Prince William County, and is facing a challenge from Democrat and former state lawmaker Elizabeth Guzman.

Both have different views on how to address data centers, reproductive rights and the increased cost of living, issues which loom large in Northern Virginia’s House District 22.


FFXnow – At least six people have been hospitalized, and local residents are being advised to shelter in place, as firefighters seek to control a two-alarm fire at a metal scrap yard along Richmond Highway in Lorton.

Fairfax County Fire and Rescue units were dispatched just after 1 p.m. to the Davis Industries property at 9920 Richmond Highway for an outside fire, according to scanner traffic.


The Center Square – While much of Washington remains shut down, Virginia just pulled off one of the largest private investments in state history.

Gov. Glenn Youngkin announced that AstraZeneca will officially invest $4.5 billion to build two new manufacturing facilities in Albemarle County.


Fredericksburg Free Press: A former Stafford County teacher has filed a $1.5 million lawsuit against four former H.H. Poole Middle School female students, alleging they assaulted her during a January 2024 brawl. 

Some of the students also faced criminal charges, but the outcome of their court hearings is not available since they are juveniles. 


Virginia Mercury: Three Stafford County voters are asking a judge to remove Democratic House of Delegates nominee Stacey Carroll from the ballot, arguing she doesn’t actually live in the district where she registered to vote and is running for office.

The petition, filed in Stafford County Circuit Court, contends Carroll lives at a longtime home in House District 23 while claiming a different address in neighboring House District 64 to qualify for the race.

The Center Square: President Donald Trump announced Monday that his administration is placing the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department under direct federal control and activating the National Guard to address violent crime in the nation’s capital. The move, made under Section 740 of the District of Columbia Home Rule Act, includes sending 800 National Guard troops to the district, according to the White House. — More from The Center Square.
