Employees at Virginia’s Bassett Furniture Company going back to work

A publically-traded furniture company in Bassett, about 250 miles away from Fredericksburg, tells Potomac Local News its employees are going back to work following a closure due to the coronavirus.

Bassett Furniture Industries, Inc. announced today that it will resume production at its manufacturing locations next week following the temporary closures due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The company is resuming production at a limited capacity to work through its existing backlog and to be in a position to service expected demand as the economy begins to reopen for business.

‘Flushable’ wipes are clogging sewer pipes in Prince William

As toilet paper shelves sit empty, flushable wipes are in demand across the region. The one catch is that the wipes aren’t supposed to end up in the sewer.

Those ‘flushable wipes’ that residents are sending down the toilet are starting to clog the system.

More people who are now at home in Virginia due to Gov. Ralph Northam’s mandatory stay-at-home order prompted by the spread of the coronavirus appear to be taking stock, and clearing out old items that are past their prime.

That has put a strain on trash haulers in our region, as our Gianna Jirak reported earlier this week.

The coronavirus hasn’t stopped the construction of two new bridges across the Rappahannock River.

Soon, drivers on Interstate 95 near Fredericksburg will have new travel options, and with any luck, a smoother commute once officials lift the lockdown spurred by the coronavirus pandemic.

Manassas offers downtown shops, restaurants $60,000 for rent relief

From the Manassas City Government:

To establish the $60,000 pool of funds, the City applied for and received a $20,000 grant from the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development. Per the City’s proposal, that amount was matched by two local entities – Historic Manassas Inc. (HMI) and the Economic Development Authority (EDA) – with the entire amount to be awarded to Historic Downtown restaurants, retailers, and personal service providers for rent relief.

Stafford keeps tax rate flat in face of millions in budget loses, coronavirus

The Stafford County Board of Supervisors on during its Tuesday, April 21 meeting had to make a decision on a tax rate in order to ensure the Real Estate tax bills would go out 30 days before the deadline on June 5.
