Virginia’s teacher workforce is smaller, unhappier and less qualified than before the COVID-19 pandemic, Virginia’s nonpartisan legislative watchdog agency said in a report Monday that urged the state to boost funding to address the issue.

Staffers of the Joint Legislative Audit and Review Commission, or JLARC, also told lawmakers that in addition to previously reported declines in academic achievement, school staff are experiencing more student behavioral problems and mental health issues.

The 13th annual Northern Virginia Veterans Day Parade occurred in Manassas on Saturday, November 5, 2022.

This year the parade salutes two local heroes as grand marshals: retired U.S. Army Colonel Ulysses Xerxes “Xerk” White and World War II Nurse Elizabeth Lewis. Dedicated to honoring America’s military and their families, this parade pays tribute to veterans’ services and inspires patriotic awareness.


Abortion rights, inflation, crime, the “radicalization” of U.S. politicians and the survival of democracy itself were among the issues weighing heavily on the minds of some of the voters who cast their ballots on Saturday, Nov. 5 — the last day of early voting before Tuesday’s general election.

While standing in line to vote early at the Woodbridge DMV Saturday afternoon, Michael Leyva, 21, of Woodbridge, said the No. 1 issue on his mind this year is abortion rights, which is why he said he planned to vote for incumbent U.S. Representative Abigail Spanberger (D) over her Republican challenger Yesli Vega.


The warning bells started ringing last spring that inflation is driving up the cost of needed road construction in Stafford County. Today, elected officials are stunned by the rising costs, which have soared to more than double the original cost estimates.

Councilwomen Greene & Ellis encourage residents to vote for balance on Election Day, Tuesday, November 8.  Together with Rick Bookwalter, they can bring balance to the city council and fight future tax increases.

Manassas City residents petitioned for car tax relief when a 4-2 vote left them overtaxed and underwhelmed with the current budget process.  Councilwomen Lynn Forkell Greene and Theresa Coates Ellis voted no but were outnumbered in May.
