MANASSAS, Va. – The Manassas City Council will decide Monday whether to move forward with a proposal that could reshape downtown with a hotel, apartments, and a new city-owned parking garage.
Council members are set to vote on September 22 on whether to accept an unsolicited redevelopment plan submitted by MLG Construction Management under Virginia’s Public-Private Education Facilities and Infrastructure Act (PPEA). The plan calls for redeveloping three downtown properties: the former Olde Towne Inn site, the MIFCO property on Center Street, and the City Hall parking lot.

The vigil began at 7:30 p.m. at the LOVE sign in downtown Manassas and lasted about 20 minutes. City resident Bill Billard, who initiated the gathering, stood before the crowd and urged people to pray and remember Kirk for bringing people together.
Billard said he was surprised by the turnout in Northern Virginia. “Charlie spoke the truth that made people mad, and he paid … the sacrifice of Christ for him,” he told attendees, drawing a parallel between Kirk’s death and the suffering of Jesus. He encouraged people to “carry on the fight” and not be afraid to speak out.
MANASSAS, Va. – A candlelight vigil will be held tonight in downtown Manassas to honor conservative activist Charlie Kirk, who was killed last week during a speaking event in Utah.
According to a Facebook event page, more than 300 people have responded to attend the gathering at the LOVE sign in Old Town. The vigil, organized by local resident Bill Ballerd, begins at 7:30 p.m.

An early morning shooting in downtown Manassas on August 23 has now escalated into a broader investigation involving abduction and an attempted robbery. Police say one of the suspects forced a separate victim into a vehicle and tried to steal their car keys shortly after the shooting. That victim has since been found safe.
Joseph West, 31, was arrested on September 3 and is being held without bond at the Prince William Detention Center. He faces charges of abduction and attempted robbery.
