WOODBRIDGE, Va. — Prince William County has been slow to attract many Fortune 500 companies to the region, unlike its neighbor to the north Fairfax County which boasts many.
Part of the problem is its lack of a the Metro rail system which workers who live in the urban core of Washington, D.C., Alexandria and Arlington can use to get to job centers in Fairfax County. Employers are looking for easy access to mass transit so workers can avoid the daily peril that is commuting while driving on Interstates 95 and 66. Just this week, Springfield, and two locations in Prince Georges County, Md. – all near Metro stations – were named finalists in the search for a new headquarters for the FBI.
DUMFRIES, Va. — Last year, Grace Church donated 13,000 pounds of food to the community through its “bag of hope” food pantry.
They did it all from their home located in Dumfries since 2007. Inside their worship center, which once served as a commercial mailing and packaging center in the heart of the town, is a large sanctuary and stage lined with musical instruments, a community daycare center with classrooms, a café, and a TV production facility the church uses to spread the words of its pastor, Bishop Derek Grier.
MANASSAS, Va. — In a little corner of Downtown Manassas new campaign headquarters opened Monday night.
It’s a joint election office for Senator Mark Warner who is seeking reelection, and for John Foust, a Fairfax County Board of Supervisors member hoping to replace outgoing Congressman Frank Wolf (R, Va.-10). Both Foust and Warner are Democrats and at their Manassas election headquarters supporters wore t-shirts, stickers, and hats as if the two men were unto themselves a professional football team.
Potomac Local’s 40 Under 40 award winners were announced Saturday at a ceremony at Potomac Shores Golf Club in Woodbridge.
Forty talented professionals under age 40 from Prince William and Stafford counties, as well as the cities of Manassas and Manassas Park were honored at the event.

Delegate Richard Anderson (R-Prince William) says he’s exploring legislation that would require drivers in Virginia to talk on their cell phones hands free. If the bill was passed, Virginia would join its neighbors in Maryland, West Virginia, and Washington, D.C. that all have hands free law on the books, and where not using a hands-free device such as a Bluetooth headset is a primary offense.
“If we don’t institute a hands-free phone ban, then we should allow someone to drink from a straw from a bottle Jim Beam while behind the wheel,” said Anderson.

MANASSAS PARK, Va. — The project that leaders hope one day will bring people and downtown development to Manassas Park will get a second look Thursday.

MANASSAS, Va. — Megan Devine says she was never one of those “rich kids” who didn’t have to worry about paying for college.
The 28-year-old is a research assistant at George Mason University put herself through school in her home state of Illinois, and did well by finishing her required undergraduate coursework by the end of her junior year. Though she finished work for her undergraduate degree during her junior year she still had to take elective classes her senior year.
