Panel meets to tackle role of Virginia ABC law enforcement

Virginia leaders today will review the state’s Alcohol Beverage Control authority law enforcement powers and procedures.

Gov. Terry McAuliffe formed a 19-member panel that is scheduled to meet for the first time today to discuss ABC’s law enforcement efforts following the arrest of 20-year-old Martese Johnson outside a Charlottesville bar. A photo of Johnson’s bloodied face was shared extensively on social media. He was arrested and charged with public intoxication and obstruction of justice by ABC law enforcement officers.

You’ll soon be able to tap your phone to purchase a Virginia Railway Express ticket.

The commuter railroad on May 15 will roll out its first-ever mobile ticketing system. Riders will be able to purchase any VRE ticket – single ride, two ride, five-day pass, monthly ticket, Amtrak Step-Up ticket – with the push of a button on their mobile device.

Mum Mum opening at Hylton, offers regional Thai cuisine

The restaurant scene outside the Hylton Performing Arts Center continues to grow.

Mum Mum, a new Thai eatery will open its doors this month across from the center. The idea is to create a relaxing atmosphere and an upscale environment where show patrons can grab a bite to eat and a drink before seeing a show.

95 Express Lanes open, Stafford County has a new traffic headache

When one solution to traffic congestion opens, another problem can appear.

In this case, a new backup has formed on Interstate 95 north on weekday mornings. Just before the entrance to the 95 Express Lanes, there is major congestion as drivers slow to read all of the signs warning them they need an E-ZPass to enter the toll lanes.

New Manassas zoning law sparks outcry from abortion backers

Abortion clinics and other medical care facilities must now have special permission from the Manassas City Council before they open.

Such new medical care facilities, other than hospitals and doctors offices — those that have office space, a lab, pharmacy, a physical therapy center, or other medical centers that do not hospitalize patients for care –must now obtain a special use permit from the Council before opening their doors in any commercial district in the city.
